for Childbirth Professionals

Want to become a Childbirth Educator, Doula, or Midwife? Charis offers excellent education for birth professionals from a Christian perspective.

The Charis Course for Childbirth Professionals is a two-part course. The first part is “Foundations for Childbirth Professionals”. In addition to this being the beginning of our Midwifery Academics Course, those who desire to become Childbirth Educators and Doulas will be fully equipped at the end of “Foundations” to take the exam to become Charis Certified Childbirth Educators and Doulas.

Part Two is “Advanced Midwifery Academics”, which builds upon “Foundations” to provide aspiring midwives an extremely comprehensive academic course. The two parts combined are designed to prepare midwives well for the NARM exam, but you will find that it far exceeds that standard.

Charis "Teaching Birth" Workshop

Our 2008 annual “Teaching Birth” Workshop will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at New Life of Virginia Beach (149 Business Park Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23462).

Rather than just focusing on “what” to teach, this newly updated workshop for childbirth educators, doulas, and midwives explores “how” to cast vision and to coach your students/clients so that even the most fearful will be able to embrace and benefit from your message.  A delicious lunch is provided and, in addition to obtaining valuable skills for presenting with confidence, all attendees will take home new ideas, tips, and great gifts to assist in teaching birth to any audience.

The cost is $200 for Charis members and $230 for non-members (includes 1 year membership). Contact Hours available for Charis CE/doula recertification.  Deadline for registration is March 20.  Registration Form

Introduction to the Midwifery Management of Neonatal Resuscitation
Workshops to be held across Virginia

Midwives, Midwifery Assistants, Childbirth Educators, and Doulas are welcome. Every mother you are blessed to serve will be thrilled to hear that you are knowledgeable and certified to aid in the resuscitation efforts should it be necessary. As a doula or Midwife Assistant, your services will be valued greatly and Midwives will consider you you more qualified.

Karen's course is amazing as it teaches all required basics but caters them to the home birth setting. In addition, she touches on the emotional aspects of birth and how it affects the mental and hormonal processes as well.

This course is more thorough than any Neonatal Coursework I have ever completed and so much more well-rounded as it touches all aspects of labor and birth care to prevent the need for resuscitation in the first place.

A group of us will be traveling together from Tidewater to attend the workshop in Richmond on April 7. If you would like to attend with this group, or for information about the NNR workshops, contact Kristi Zittle, LM, at 757-479-1737 or quiver-of-8@cox.net if you have any questions. Hope to see you all there!

It is almost time for our annual ‘Teaching Birth’ workshop!!! I am so excited to have the chance to spend the day with those of you who will be attending! I believe this will be the largest group we have had so far at one of our workshops. I know many of you are traveling a long distance (Ukraine is VERY far away), so I will endeavor to make it well worth the trip!

For me, life is one big classroom. I love learning new things! Over the last few years I have learned so much about the art of vision-casting, the value of asking powerful questions, and how to apply these and other skills as I coach and teach in a way that helps my clients become engaged, excited, willing learners. I will pass these and other valuable tools on to you at our workshop in April. The workshop will be presented from the perspective of a birth professional, but the skills you gain that day will undoubtedly impact other areas of your lives as well. The workshop is open to midwives, doulas, childbirth educators, students, and anyone else who would like to become a more effective educator.

The deadline for registration is soon – Your registration MUST be received by March 20 because I will be ordering the supplies for the group on March 21.

Looking forward to our time together on April 5th!!!

P.S. Since Easter is approaching, I want to wish you and your precious families a happy “Resurrection Day”!!! As a Christian, there is nothing more significant or wonderful to celebrate than the resurrection of Jesus!!!
