Missions Trip to Madagascar Update:

Since the Hamiltons will be traveling back to the US this fall and winter, we have changed our trip date to July of 2008. We are going first and foremost to be a blessing to the Hamiltons. While there, we hope to put on one or more "workshops" for the midwives and other medical professionals in and around Diego. In addition, we would like to bless the medical professionals with a gift that will help them in their practice. Please pray for David, Deborah, and Kristin as they seek God's direction for the specific topics to address in the workshop(s). Also pray to see whether or not God would have you join us on this adventure. It will, no doubt, change your life as you go to serve the Hamiltons and the Malagasy people. We will have the official "sign-up" at the beginning of 2008. More details to come.

Charis: Committed to Excellence

Have you ever hired someone to do a job for you, expecting excellence, only to be let down by less-than-excellent work?

As you may know, our family has been building a house in North Port, Florida. The builders are doing a relatively good job, but some of the contractors are not living up to my expectations. Todd is now in FL (the kids and I are still in Virginia Beach), so he is able to check on the building progress regularly and he has reported to me that the people who put in the tile need to go back and replace some tiles that were not installed correctly. UUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!! Why didn't they do it right the first time???

OK. I'm really not writing this to complain. I am very pleased with most of the work that has been done so far on our new home. But this tile thing has led me to ask this question: Why do people do substandard work? Why don't they take pride in their work and do it with excellence?

As I have thought about this, I, of course, had to reflect on my own life and work. I wish I could say that everything I have ever done has been perfect. Unfortunately is hasn't. But I do take pride in what I do, and I deeply desire to do everything as unto the Lord. As I have been examining my life and work, I have thought about Charis and the work we are doing as an organization. So much joy welled up inside me as I realized that God is gathering together a group of people who share this value of serving with excellence. ALL of our Childbirth Educators, Doulas, & Midwives are women of excellence... excellence of character and service. I am so honored to be connected with such an incredible group of people!!!

My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you who so selflessly serve childbearing families with such high standards of excellence-- as unto the Lord. You will reap a great reward!

Committed to Excellence,
Kristin

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
