Becoming A
Midwife
You Have Formed Me
in the Womb

Becky Rosser lives with
her parents in Sun Valley, Idaho. She is a Charis
midwifery student and is enjoying her journey to becoming a
midwife. She works as a nanny for two families as well as
volunteers as a youth leader for a local youth group. She
loves spending time with her family and friends, hiking, riding
motorcycles, hunting, reading, and dancing. |
“What made you
want to do that?” I get this question a lot when I tell someone I am
studying to become a midwife. Honestly, the only answer I have is
that it was God.
He orchestrated events and conversations in my life to spark my interest
in midwifery and led me every step of the way to where I am now.
Ever since I can remember I have loved babies. They are the most
precious thing in the whole world. My friends always say I have
baby fever because I can’t help but notice and stare at every baby I
see. I have also had a strong passion for unborn babies as well.
Many times I contemplated becoming a pro-life activist. Something
about a tiny, helpless human having someone else choose whether or not
they have the right to live infuriates me. God says that children
are a gift, a blessing, not a burden on parents and society. It
saddens my soul to see how far we have strayed from this Biblical truth
and how greatly so many miss out on the perfect plan God has for them.
I long for people to experience the joy of little ones, and, more than
that, to experience the joy of knowing God.
When I was about 12 years old I heard a missionary from Papua New Guinea
speak of his experiences with missions. I knew from that moment on
that I wanted to go overseas and tell people about Jesus. I didn’t
know where or how, but something in my heart told me I was meant to go
someday.
Along with a love for people, I have always been fascinated with the
human body. How God created it absolutely blows my mind. The
simple fact that God takes two people and, out of them, makes another
perfect little human is incredible. I can’t think of a better
miracle for people to stand in awe of just how great God is. I was
almost sure that I wanted to be a midwife before I saw my first birth.
After, I knew there was nothing else I wanted to do. To be a part
of bringing new lives into this world sounds like the greatest honor I
could imagine.
As I think of all the babies I will get to deliver one day I can’t help
but think of how God will form each and every one of them. He
already has a purpose and a plan for their lives. Looking back
over my life I see how God formed me in my mother’s womb for this very
purpose. All those dreams, passions, and talents He has given me
are to be able to usher people not only into this world but into His
kingdom. I know He has made me for this very calling, and feel so
privileged that He has chosen me.
'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them
from the ends of the earth,
Among them the blind and the lame,
The woman with child and The one who labors with child, together,
A
great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
