Charis “Labor Support” Workshop
Saturday, September 26, 2009
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
At the
Breath of Life Birth Center
1900 East Bay Drive
Largo, FL 33771
For
childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, or anyone who would like to
improve her ability to support laboring women.
At our workshops, learning is interactive, hands-on, fun, and
interesting. All Charis workshops are taught from a Christian
perspective, giving God the glory for His marvelous creation and how
He so wonderfully created women to bear children.
You will spend the day making new friends and becoming more skilled
in putting to use many techniques to bring a woman comfort during
each phase of labor, understanding the science behind why the
comfort measures work, creating an environment conducive to the
natural progression of labor, recognizing when a woman is beginning
to panic and helping her regain control, gently encouraging a woman
to effectively push out her baby while taking advantage of the
natural physiology of second stage, assisting a woman in
breastfeeding for the very first time, and so much more.
In addition to the valuable skills acquired at the workshop, you
will also take home with you a beautiful “labor support bag” filled
with an assortment of tools to help you successfully support, serve,
and bring comfort to your future clients as they labor.
A delicious lunch will be provided for all the workshop attendees to
enjoy as you get to know each other better during a midday break.
The cost is $200 for Charis members and $230 for non-members
(includes one-year Charis membership).

Our
Director's Heart
Hello
Charis Family!
Have you ever known the direction you were meant to go in life, but
felt that there were insurmountable obstacles in your way?
Charis student Anne Sokol serves as a missionary in Kiev, Ukraine.
She is currently working as the director of a home for women facing
crisis pregnancies and is ministering to women who have had
abortions in the past. Her dream is to open up part of the home as a
Christian “Birth House” where women receive excellent and respectful
prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum care. There is such a huge need
for improved maternity care in that country and it seems that there
is no one else attempting to create better birthing practices in her
area.
As you may know, poverty is great in that country. There are not
very many ways to create extra income, so her family relies on
financial funding from supporters in the United States. The support
they currently receive is not enough to cover her tuition for the
Charis Advanced Midwifery Academics Course, so a miracle is needed.
Would you consider donating to the Charis Midwifery Scholarship Fund
so that we can offer Anne a scholarship for the remainder of her
education? No amount is too small or too great. It is also fine to
break your donation into smaller chunks and send part each month.
That may work better for some families’ budgets than a larger
one-time gift. (Tuition is $875/quarter and it takes the average
student 3 years to complete the course.)
You can mail your donation to Charis with a separate note that it is
for the Midwifery Scholarship Fund. (Make checks out to Charis
Childbirth.)

Thank you for praying for Anne and the incredible work she is doing
in Ukraine. She is making a tremendous difference in the lives of
the women and families she serves. And thank you for considering
helping out financially so she can complete her education. Although
the obstacles seem very big, we serve a God who is bigger!
Love and blessings,

Exciting
Announcement!!!
It is time for Charis to begin translating our materials into other
languages!!!
So far, all of our students have been fluent in English, but we knew
eventually we would have students who need the books and materials
in other languages.
So the first language translation will be …(((drum roll)))…
Russian! There are currently two Ukrainian ladies who want to go
through the Charis doula training, so it is time to translate! That
takes time and money.
If you are excited that we have the opportunity to take the Charis
ministry into Russian-speaking countries, please help us out! Send
your donations to Charis Childbirth at P.O. Box 6900, North Port, FL
34290. Please write on a separate note
(not on your check) that your donation is for the Russian
translation project.
THANK YOU!!!!!
