Exciting
Announcement!!!
It is time for Charis to begin translating our materials into other
languages!!!
So far, all of our students have been fluent in English, but we knew
eventually we would have students who need the books and materials
in other languages.
So the first language translation will be …(((drum roll)))…
Russian! There are currently two Ukrainian ladies who want to go
through the Charis doula training, so it is time to translate! That
takes time and money.
If you are excited that we have the opportunity to take the Charis
ministry into Russian-speaking countries, please help us out! Send
your donations to Charis Childbirth at P.O. Box 6900, North Port, FL
34290. Please write on a separate note
(not on your check) that your donation is for the Russian
translation project.
THANK YOU!!!!!

Susan Oshel ~ Director of Midwifery Studies

Our
Director's Heart
Kristin
Schuchmann, our Executive Director, sends her love and blessings;
but this month we will hear from the heart of our Director of
Midwifery Studies, Susan Oshel:

Dear
Charis Family,
Have you ever thought you trained so completely for something that you
probably don't need to pay for more education in
that area? Have you been at a place where, although you know
learning never ends and it might be nice to attend another workshop, you think you would rather focus on areas where you haven't
tread before?
And then you decide to join a group of lovely younger ladies to
participate anyhow? That's exactly what I did.
My eyes were opened wider and my heart deeper as I spent the day at
the Charis “Teaching Birth” Workshop on February 21, 2009!
I suspect others there might have felt the same way; but like
me, they left more enriched, enlightened and grounded yet deeper in
the skills in which we may have thought we were already proficient.
What did I learn that I thought I already knew?
1. How to listen, even more effectively.
2. How to really teach.
3. How to more effectively present a topic so that my clients easily
receive and embrace what I am offering.
4. How to "build" (teach and lead) a group so the group is
comfortable and receptive.
5. How I could grow even more in all those areas so that I will be
the best communicator and educator I can possibly be.

Susan, Hallie, Marsha, Kathryn, and Kate are working on composing
creative "hooks" and "introductions" to use in the future as they
teach birthing families.
It was a
lovely day communing, learning from and role-playing with the lovely
ladies who shared the “Teaching Birth” Workshop at Breath of Life
Birth Center in Largo, Florida. I am very appreciative of Kristin's
teaching abilities and heart to help others rise to their greatest
potential. I think I might attend all the other Charis workshops “I
think I don't need” in the future! (And invite my midwife sisters to
join me even if they think they're already trained in those areas,
too.) There is so much yet to learn!
Blessings and Love,
Susan Oshel, CPM
Charis Director of Midwifery Studies

Hallie Dedrick (kneeling), Marsha Laycox, Kate McKinney, Kathryn
Joseph, Susan Oshel, and workshop facilitator Kristin Schuchmann
after enjoying a delicious meal and wonderful fellowship.
