Zipporah Walker
Hello beautiful Charis Family!
My name us Zipporah Walker and I have been enrolled
in the Charis CD/CE/Lactation Consultant track since
last October. I have never been so challenged,
blessed and changed through “school” in my life.
Honestly, I had no clue how this particular program
would change my entire life, not just shape my
career. Finding truth at every turn is, sadly, rare
in birth culture. Charis is different: full to the
brim with truth, excellence and Christ’s love.
The journey to finding Charis was long and had many
twists and turns in it, leaving me alternately
excited and disappointed as God opened and shut
various doors. Eventually He made it completely
clear that I needed to commit to Charis as my home
base for learning to love through studying to become
a doula. Although I am often overwhelmed with the
task of loving women and their babies, I believe
that no matter how being a doula looks, in the end,
this process of learning will be utterly worth it.
One super neat thing is that Annaiah, my younger
sister, is also doing the same track in Charis. It
has been a wonderful thing, having my dearest friend
become my study-partner, confidant and brain-storm
companion throughout this process. Our entire family
of 7 is committed to helping us and supporting our
dreams of being doulas.

Outside of Charis I work tutoring
children and at our local Crisis Pregnancy Center
over the school year, and then in the summer I have
the crazy-fun, crazy-hard task of counseling at a
local Christian camp over the summer. Presently I am
smack dab in the middle of another summer working
with kids ranging from ages 7 to 18 depending on the
week. I find it fascinating that no matter where I
go, no matter what I do, the theme of loving
“babies, littles and ladies” has completely shaped
the trajectory of my life. It’s just like our
Creative God to make Charis just one more page in a
story of being called to give compassion, comfort
and Christ wherever we go.

I am so thankful for everyone
involved with Charis; for the community it provides
and how this organization, this family, strives to
encourage and equip way beyond the technical side of
our work but also jumps deeply into relationships
and ultimately, the Gospel. He is such a good, good
God, shutting and opening those doors… until He led
me here!
Much love,
Zipporah
