Charis “Labor Support” Workshop
Saturday, October 11, 2014
9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
At
LifeSong Midwifery
in
North Port, Florida
For
childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, or anyone who would like to improve her
ability to support laboring women.
At our workshops, learning is interactive, hands-on, fun, and interesting. All
Charis workshops are taught from a Christian perspective, giving God the glory
for His marvelous creation and how He so wonderfully created women to bear
children.
You will spend the day making new friends and becoming more skilled in putting
to use many techniques to bring a woman comfort during each phase of labor,
understanding the science behind why the comfort measures work, creating an
environment conducive to the natural progression of labor, recognizing when a
woman is beginning to panic and helping her regain control, gently encouraging a
woman to effectively push out her baby while taking advantage of the natural
physiology of second stage, assisting a woman in breastfeeding for the very
first time, and so much more.
In addition to the valuable skills acquired at the workshop, you will also take
home with you a beautiful “labor support bag” filled with an assortment of tools
to help you successfully support, serve, and bring comfort to your future
clients as they labor.
A delicious lunch will be provided for all the workshop attendees to enjoy as
you get to know each other better during a midday break.
The cost is $225 for Charis members and $255 for non-members (includes one-year
Charis membership).

Our Director's Heart

“Why haven’t I been getting Charis
newsletters?”
We’ve gotten notes from several of you
wondering where our newsletters have been. In case others have been wondering as
well, here’s your answer:
Although we were not initially aware, we began having problems with our web
server about a year ago. At the beginning of this year, the problems became
significant enough that we noticed and realized something must be done. We tried
resolving the issues without having to switch servers; but, unfortunately, we
eventually had to look for a new server that could better meet our needs.
Choosing a new server and switching everything over took quite a bit longer than
anticipated and we were unable to send out newsletters during the transition.
I am thrilled to report that we are all situated with our new server and you
will be receiving monthly newsletters once again!
Something I am not so happy about, however, is that one of the things that was
most severely affected by the problems, even before we knew they existed, was
email being sent to or from a chairschildbirth.org email address. If you sent an
email in the past year that never received a response or if you were expecting
an email from us that you never received, we promise we did not intentionally
ignore you! I apologize with all my heart and hope you will get back in touch!
It appears that with our new server, nothing is being blocked in our email
sending and receiving and everything is working fine now.
The only thing that did not transition well to our new server is our Charis
student email group. We’re looking into new options that are supported by our
new server and will have a new group up and running soon so our students can,
once again, connect with each other in that way.
HUGE thanks go out to Todd and David for working hard on this transition, to our
students for their patience with me during this time (anyone who knows me well
knows that the only thing more stressful to me than car problems is technology
failure), and to those of you who let us know how much you have missed the
Charis newsletters!
On a more personal note…

I am overjoyed to announce that I received
a new son at the end of May! My daughter Joy married the man of her dreams and
blessed me with a fantastic son-in-love, Mark Wheat. It was a beautiful wedding
under the oak trees in a park near our home and their reception was held at a
historic building on Boca Grande. They are enjoying married life in their new
home in Mississippi, which is WAY too far from FL!
Workshop Time!!!
I’m looking forward to spending time with
some of you at the upcoming Charis “Labor Support” workshop. If you haven’t
already done so, please get your registration in the mail soon. The deadline for
registrations to be received is September 20. We are going to have such a GREAT
time!!!
Love and blessings,
Kristin Schuchmann, CPM, LM

Update
Charis Membership
We at Charis are extremely grateful for our wonderful members. This past
year, your dues have made it financially possible for us to creatively
correspond with people in areas of the world where internet is spotty at best.
Having all forms of communication available for us is essential if we are going
to successfully train birth professionals in the far reaches of the earth.
As our community of members grows, there will be more funds available for even
more world-impacting outreach. Thank you!
Membership is due every December 31 for the coming calendar year. So, if
you became a member on or before December 31, 2013, your dues should be mailed
by the middle of December, 2014, to be sure it is received in time. If you
become a member sometime in 2014, then your membership renewal is not due until
December 31, 2015.
You can send your membership form and $30 dues to:
