Our Charis Family

Casey Medrano

One year ago, Casey and Maya.

Hello everyone!

Happy to share a bit about myself with my Charis family. My name is Casey Medrano and I began my journey with Charis this past April as a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator and lactation counselor student. I have already met a few members of our Charis family and each encounter has been uplifting and encouraging! Thank you for welcoming me into the fold!

I grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia where I met my husband, Eric, during my tenure at Regent University (we both turn 30 this year!). I was working at a plant-based restaurant when I had a vision of helping mamas navigate nutrition during their pregnancies (I am a Holistic Health Coach) and supporting them throughout labor.  One year later (prior to fulfilling this vision) we were blessed with our own daughter. God placed the call of Doula on my heart while working at the restaurant three years ago and the doors opened to me this year!

I was blessed to experience an un-medicated birth with our daughter. My baby's birth was my only birth experience until this summer. I have attended two births so far. And now, I'm actually attending another as I write this bio! This mamma is undergoing an induction and not not having strong contractions yet.  I'm literally counseling her husband through some possible positions that might be needed later when labor becomes active. I'm typing this bio while giving them space!

......24 hours later, I'm sitting in the hospital room picking this back up while my friend rests. A hard labor, a forced labor, but necessary. A baby longed for for eight years.

These three births have truly humbled me to the power of baby and birth. Encouraging mamas who have done everything they can, preparing them for their marathon. We wait for baby to tell us what she needs to be born. And no matter how mama brings her baby into this world, whether on her own or with help, she is a lioness, a warrior and we hear her roar.

What a honor it is that we get to run beside these women, that God has called us to be in these moments. I am so grateful I answered Him.

Blessings,
Casey

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
