Charis Around the World

Childbirth Paths International
by Amy Elliott, CD, CCE, MA
Executive Director for Childbirth PATHS International

Dear Charis Family,

Well, I write you this month to inform you that we have made some big changes to the new organization! We have now landed on the name Childbirth PATHS International!!!! We have already started calling it “CPI” or “PATHS” for short.

We just held our first board meeting this week and were able to approve the documents we need in order to file the non-profit with the State of Florida. This is VERY exciting news!!!

Please keep two things in your prayers as we launch:

1. We have a major need for some core funding to start out with. Please ask for long term committed donors.

2. We are working to have the website up and running very soon, and we will need a solid strategy and policy document before the Fall. Please pray for wisdom as we move ahead in these things.

I am so thankful you are beside us!

One of these pictures is taken in the United States and one of these pictures is taken in South Asia. Can you guess which one is which? The one is the United States is a refugee woman holding a precious baby who is my namesake, Amy. The woman holding her has been through what can only be described as hell on earth as she has made her way to this nation. She earned her Master’s degree in New York City and now awaits an official green card as an asylum seeker. She is not allowed to work without the green card, and she would be totally destitute without the family who has taken her in. Please keep her in your prayers as she attends house church with them and discovers what the life of the believer really looks like day in and day out. Would you be up for such a challenge?

Pray for refugees around the world and their birth needs. Pray there would be open doors to serve them and for them to also serve each other.

The picture taken in South Asia depicts a “nanny” or caretaker of a baby I deeply love who is growing up in a war zone. Her parents are from two different developed nations, but they are called to live and serve in the dangerous land where they have made their home. Can you tell what kind of doll the girl is playing with?? It is one of the demo dolls from ICEA. She has fallen in love with it and I left it there for her. I used the doll when conducting childbirth classes with her parents before she was born. I love having that forever bond with their family, even while we live on two different sides of the planet now!

Pray for all the nannies who help western women who live overseas, and who care for children as well. What would be a more sustainable form of work for them? Do you have any ideas? Do you think women who already help other women out might be great candidates for becoming doulas?

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
