Our Charis Family

Morgan Mitchell

Hi Everyone!

My name is Morgan Mitchell. I am 19 years old and live in Chesapeake, VA, with my parents, younger brother (17), younger sister (12), and a cute, ornery, fluffy, five year-old Cavachon dog named Teddy. I was homeschooled from 2nd through 12th grade and would not change it for the world. I grew up a military child, so we moved a lot (including 2 cross-country trips), and I believe being homeschooled through these transitions made life a little smoother.

Some of my favorite hobbies include writing, journaling, rollerblading, exercising, reading the Word, spending time with little ones, playing harp and guitar, dancing, going to the beach, meeting new people, going on road trips, involving myself in pretty much any outdoor activity, and spending time with family and friends.

Although I didn’t know exactly what my future held, I did know these things: I wanted to help people, serve people, protect life, expand the Kingdom, be a wife and a mom, and skydive (the latter hasn’t happened yet, but hopefully will soon ).  :)

Ever since I was young girl, I was always the mother hen to those younger than me -- I have always loved little ones, especially newborns, and could always be found holding a baby or playing with a toddler.

In my middle/high school years, I frequently wrote my persuasive essays on abortion – being pro-life was and is something that has always been close to my heart.

Toward the end of my high school years, I began volunteering at a few Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPC) baby showers and absolutely loved being able to visit, pray for, and encourage these mostly first time moms-to-be (and even some dads-to-be).  It blessed my heart and brought tears to my eyes to watch as the mamas received baby clothes, blankets, and just the everyday essentials they would need for their little one(s). More importantly, however, I loved being able to thank and encourage them for choosing life. :)

After attending the birth of a family friend (delivering her 12th child!) when I was 16, it was then the Lord placed a clear desire in my heart to do something in the field of child delivery. My friend had a midwife deliver her baby at the hospital. It’s amazing that before this experience I never really knew what a midwife or doula was!

One day, shortly after the birth, my mom was talking with a friend, who come to find out, knew Kristin Schuchmann and about her Charis ministry. She encouraged us to check it out and perhaps email Kristin! We did, and after receiving positive feedback, I quickly wanted to jump on board and begin the midwifery course; however, for some reason I did not feel 100% at peace. I was slightly confused as to why the Lord would close a door I so eagerly wanted open! But, alas, I stepped back and submitted.

College was never pushed on me by my parents. In fact, until my junior year I had never thought through what “life after high school” might look like for me. After some researching, I considered going to Regent University and major in communication and minor in Christian ministry, but never felt completely at peace with this choice. So, I waited. I waited on the Lord to reveal what His plan was while helping at home and working part-time as an office manager for a local commercial cleaning company.

Three years later, the Lord swung the door wide open again and after prayer and acquiring council from my parents, I began the Doula and Childbirth Educator course through Charis in April 2015! I am not too far along in my training, but I am enjoying what I have accomplished thus far and look forward to what the Lord has planned moving forward.

Looking into the future, I would love to have my own business, Lord willing, as a Doula/C.E., but my dream would be to offer my services free of charge to bless women (like those at CPC), and as a “thank you” to them for choosing life.

I can’t wait to see what God has in store!

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden….Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” - Matt. 5:14, 16

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
 Jeremiah 31:8, 14
