La
Sondra Smith

Joshua and La Sondra Smith
Hello. My name is La Sondra Smith,
and I feel honored to be featured in this month’s
newsletter! A long-term goal of mine is to become a
Certified Professional Midwife. However, currently I
am still very excited to be on the path to becoming
a Doula and someday, Lord willing, I'll be a
midwife.
I’ve worked with children off and on since I was
about 19 years old. Finally, at the age of 24, I
sought The Lord to ask Him what direction my life
was going in as far as having a career. Being a
military spouse and relocating about every 2-3
years, it is extremely difficult to sort of “find
your own place in the world.” This of course has
plenty to do with the fact that I love my United
States Airman and I chose to be supportive of his
career above my own.
As I mentioned, I asked God about a career for me.
Given my known love for children, I really shouldn’t
have been surprised (although I was) when He
answered me with "children". What’s more, I honestly
felt he was giving me a rare sort of leeway to
choose an avenue in which I could accomplish working
with and ministering to His precious little ones.
One day, while speaking with a friend about her
recent labor and delivery, it dawned on me that this
was a way in which I could put my hands to work and
positively touch the lives of hopefully many babies
at the very start of their lives. Not to mention, I
could also work with and care for women, an idea
that was also very attractive to me.
Now after several bumps along my path and moving
across the world, I am overjoyed to be in a good
spot, with the support of my husband, to study to be
a childbirth professional at this great school,
Charis Childbirth.
And what’s even more of a blessing, I
was surprised with the gift of a pregnancy of my
very own!
