Our Charis Family

Marylynn Morse

Dear Charis Family,

My name is Marylynn Morse. I live in beautiful Springfield, Oregon. I have lived here my whole life with my Dad and Mom, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. I am 22 years old and number 4 in the line up. I just joined the Charis family in October of this year and am in the Doula program!

I want to give you a little glimpse of my life and how I ended up in the Charis Childbirth doula program. My parents were missionary’s in the Philippines for five years and that is where they met. When they came back to the states, my dad became the local director for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) here in Springfield. While I was growing up, my siblings and I would help my dad out and share the gospel with kids during the summer. God used it to encourage me out of my shell and made me more outgoing and bold. Then in 2014 I went to CEF’s headquarters, which is in Missouri, and attended school there to learn how to better teach kids the gospel and also how to teach adults how to teach kids!

When I came home, God placed an amazing job in my lap that I had no idea I would love doing! The job was working for a family with medically fragile foster kids, who I fell in love with! My mom has always told me I would make a good nurse or midwife, but I always brushed it off saying I didn’t think I could do it. My Mom gave birth to my three older siblings at a hospital nearby, but after a bad experience, she decided to have the rest at home. I was her first home birth and I ended up being born in my amniotic sack!!

Now, fast-forward to last year! I was working for a family who has medically fragile kids, being their caregiver. I loved that job and I loved the family and kids! However, in October of last year, I felt like God was telling me to quit my job. And to be honest, I did not want to, I loved my job! Why would God want me to quit?!? Well, October 31st , 2016, was my last day at work. I was very sad. But I kept praying and asking God what he wanted me to do. In December of that year He impressed on my heart to go to the Philippines. I had always wanted to go, but never really had the opportunity. So I applied with an organization and they placed me with an orphanage that works with street children.

On May 13th 2017, I traveled to my new job in the Philippines. While there I was able to visit a birthing home for impoverished families, who cannot afford medical care. Being able to help with some of the prenatal stuff and see the work and blessing on behalf of these families, I decided that I would love to become a midwife or doula! When I got home from the Philippines on July 25th 2017, I told my parents about the desire God placed in me. My mom and I looked up some doula course options and ended up going with Charis Childbirth! Having been homeschooled, the idea of learning through a program like Charis seemed like a great fit, along with the important priority of making it Christ centered! I enrolled in the doula program in September and started my classes in October. I am excited to see where God takes me and how he uses me as a doula!

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
 Jeremiah 31:8, 14
