Update

Charis Membership

We at Charis are extremely grateful for our wonderful members.  This past year, your dues have made it financially possible for us to creatively correspond with people in areas of the world where internet is spotty at best.  Having all forms of communication available for us is essential if we are going to successfully train birth professionals in the far reaches of the earth.  As our community of members grows, there will be more funds available for even more world-impacting outreach. Thank you!

Membership is due every December 31 for the coming calendar year.  So, if you became a member on or before December 31, 2011, your dues should be mailed by the middle of December, 2012, to be sure it is received in time.  If you became a member sometime in 2012, then your membership is not due until December 31, 2013.

You can send your membership form and $30 dues to:

Gratitude for Gardens, Guests, and Grandbabies!

The month of November holds much excitement in the Schuchmann home.  This year, I have planted my very first large-scale garden and things are growing!!! Midwifery and gardening naturally go hand-in-hand and my little experiment with a community garden is meant to be a prototype of sorts.  We hope to learn through my successes and failures in order to be able to support and encourage other midwives around the world as they begin their own community gardens.  (We figured that if we could get things to grow in our sandy yard in Florida, then it could be a success just about anywhere.)  The idea is that a garden alongside a midwifery clinic would be a good incentive for women in the community to come for prenatal care.  Two blessings in one: food for the families and better pregnancy & birth outcomes!  So thankful for my little plants that hold so much potential! May their growth be a blessing to many!

Rose and Todd Schuchmann gardening

One of the Charis students who is already using gardening to bless her community is Mary Beth Stubenrauch in Thailand.  I had the privilege of taking a tour of the aquaponics system her husband Brian has set up in their back yard during one of our Skype appointments earlier in the year.  Very impressive!  The Stubenrauchs are currently in the States on furlough and, at the beginning of this month, we were blessed to have Mary Beth and her family stay in our home.  While they were here, they had the opportunity to visit the ECHO global farm in North Fort Myers, which gave them fresh excitement concerning their farming dreams in Thailand. Finally meeting Mary Beth and her family in person was so much fun!  We just wish we could have had more time together.  Please pray for Mary Beth, Brian, and their four beautiful children as they return to Thailand at the beginning of 2013.  They face visa challenges in addition to seeking God’s direction for just the right location for the birth of their next baby who is due to be born in April.

And speaking of babies…  We are waiting patiently for the arrival of my first grandbaby!!!  Eric and Carole-Lee traveled from Virginia to Florida to be able to deliver their baby, who is due around Thanksgiving, with me in my home.  Please pray for all of us as our newest member of the family safely and peacefully enters the world.

Eric and Carol-Lee

My heart is full of gratitude to God for these and so many other wonderful blessings!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
