Charis “Labor Support” Workshop

At Charis Childbirth
in
North Port, Florida
For
childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, or anyone who would like to improve her
ability to support laboring women.
At our workshops, learning is interactive, hands-on, fun, and interesting. All
Charis workshops are taught from a Christian perspective, giving God the glory
for His marvelous creation and how He so wonderfully created women to bear
children.
You will spend the day making new friends and becoming more skilled in putting
to use many techniques to bring a woman comfort during each phase of labor,
understanding the science behind why the comfort measures work, creating an
environment conducive to the natural progression of labor, recognizing when a
woman is beginning to panic and helping her regain control, gently encouraging a
woman to effectively push out her baby while taking advantage of the natural
physiology of second stage, assisting a woman in breastfeeding for the very
first time, and so much more.
In addition to the valuable skills acquired at the workshop, you will also take
home with you a beautiful “labor support bag” filled with an assortment of tools
to help you successfully support, serve, and bring comfort to your future
clients as they labor.
A delicious lunch will be provided for all the workshop attendees to enjoy as
you get to know each other better during a midday break.

Exciting Birth
Announcement
Charis is proud to announce the birth of her very first sister! Heritage
School of Midwifery and Natural Health Sciences received her official
license as a Florida approved midwifery program on August 12, 2016! It was
an extra long gestation and a hard labor, but she is finally here! For those
who may be wondering why Charis was not satisfied as an only child, here is
a little history:
Charis Childbirth was born in January of 2003 and has trained dozens of
doulas, childbirth educators, lactation counselors and midwives for over a
decade. Charis-trained birth professionals continue to practice in many
states in the United States and many other countries around the world as a
result of the unique form of education provided through Charis Childbirth.
When I moved to Florida in 2007, I discovered that Florida has special
requirements for midwives, including 3 years of in-classroom training.
Charis Childbirth meets the needs of students who desire a distance academic
program, but another option is needed for the future midwives in Florida.
This need inspired the dream to start a Florida-approved midwifery school
that shares Charis Childbirth’s passion for improving maternity outcomes all
over the world, starting with bringing midwifery training to my own
‘neighborhood’ in southwest Florida.
As sister schools, they are completely separate corporations and, just as it
was when your mother gave birth to your sister, the birth of Heritage has
not been as a result of Charis's efforts or finances, but my own as the
"mother". Charis Childbirth, however, is extremely happy proud to welcome
her sister Heritage School of Midwifery into the family and they will always
share a sisterly bond.
Without my incredible staff, neither Charis nor Heritage would be thriving.
Huge thanks go to Christy Hicks, Administrative Director of Heritage School
of Midwifery, who has worked tirelessly for the past couple years to ensure
that this dream became a reality. Next time you see Christy, show her some
love!

Charis Membership
We at Charis are extremely grateful for our wonderful members.
This past year, your dues have made it financially possible for
us to creatively correspond with people in areas of the world
where internet is spotty at best. Having all forms of
communication available for us is essential if we are going to
successfully train birth professionals in the far reaches of the
earth. As our community of members grows, there will be more
funds available for even more world-impacting outreach. Thank
you!
Membership is due every December 31 for the coming calendar
year. So, if you became a member on or before December 31,
2014, your dues should be mailed by the middle of December,
2015, to be sure it is received in time. If you become a member
sometime in 2015, then your membership renewal is not due until
December 31, 2016.
