Our
Director's Heart
Dear
Charis Family,
There are some super exciting things that have been growing secretly
in the womb of Charis for a while, but I think these babies have
gestated long enough to make some announcements!
First, Charis is currently experiencing the birthing pains of our
next “baby”: Charis Certified Lactation Counselor course! Susan
and I have combined our efforts on this one and it is looking great!
Christi Jones, Charis CCE/CD, is helping us by being our guinea pig
as the first person to go through the course. We will
officially launch it as soon as she has finished. As we get
closer to our launch date, I’ll let you know and we’ll post the
registration form on the website. This CLC course will
initially be offered exclusively for current and past Charis
students, but will eventually be available as a stand-alone course
open to the general public.
The next “baby” I have been working on is still very much in the
“first trimester”, but I hope to have it completed within the next
year: Human Anatomy and Physiology course for Charis midwifery
students! I am working on writing a comprehensive A&P
course that will first be available only to our students abroad who
have no access to college level A&P. If all goes well, we may
make it available to other midwifery students who do not already
have college A&P credits prior to starting the course.
The last announcement for today is HUGE!!! This BIG “baby” is
“due” in August of 2013: A midwifery school based in Sarasota
County, FL, that satisfies all the requirements for FL licensure
and, ultimately, MEAC accreditation. The FL school will
not take the place of our distance academics course, but will be
another excellent option for those who need a different kind of
midwifery school. As the next two years go by and we iron out
the details, we will keep everyone informed. The school
doesn’t even have a name yet, but we are sure just the right name
will be revealed as time goes by.
Charis is committed to offering the very best education for birth
professionals and we are excited about the expansion of our scope
over the next couple of years! Please continue to pray for
Charis! Our staffing needs grow as we expand this way and we want to
be able to continue to hire only the very best so that we can
continue to uphold our high standards of excellence and serve our
students very well.
Breathing through the next contraction,
Kristin Schuchmann

Charis Membership
We at Charis are extremely grateful for our wonderful members. This
past year, your dues have made it financially possible for us to
creatively correspond with people in areas of the world where
internet is spotty at best. Having all forms of communication
available for us is essential if we are going to successfully train
birth professionals in the far reaches of the earth. As our
community of members grows, there will be more funds available for
even more world-impacting outreach. Thank you!
Several people have contacted us recently asking about when their
membership dues should be paid. Membership is due every December 31
for the coming calendar year. So, if you became a member on or
before December 31, 2009, your dues should be mailed by the middle
of December, 2010, to be sure it is received in time. If you became
a member sometime in 2010, then your membership is not due until
December 31, 2011.
You can send your
membership form and $30 dues to:
