Charis Around the World

Childbirth in Kenya
by Jannekah Guya, Charis midwifery student

Midwife Lucy Muchiri practicing exercises with two pregnant mamas (a Kenyan and an American missionary)
during her childbirth class series Jannekah has the pleasure of auditing.

I imagine one of the most challenging things about being a midwife is finding a right and Godly balance.  The reality is, sometimes we have mamas who need us, husbands who need us, and children who need us, all at the very same time.  Sometimes we have to make hard choices.  Being a midwifery student is one of about one million very heavy responsibilities I carry every day, and that's why one of my most fervent prayers is that God will help me to prioritize right, choose right, and balance right.  I often get it wrong.  I often feel guilty.  I often have regrets.  I often feel stressed that while I'm doing something really needful, something else really needful needs to be getting done too.  Lots of people truly, sincerely need me.  All of the one million tasks I'm responsible for in a day are truly, sincerely important and truly, sincerely need my attention.  I often hear people say that God will never give us more than we can handle, but I guarantee that is entirely untrue.  I am faced with way more than I can handle every single day.  If I wasn't, I wouldn't need to rely on the Lord every moment.  If I could handle it all on my own I wouldn't see His strength made perfect in my weakness.  I wouldn't need faith.  I wouldn't need Him.  Not if He never gave me more than I can handle.  So I find myself thankful that every day I am faced with a load I could never possibly attempt to carry.  A load that I so thankfully leave at the foot of His cross.   Much Love, Jannekah

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
