Our
Director's Heart
Kristin Schuchmann and Jannekah Guya in March, 2012, when the Guya family traveled
to Florida and spent time with the Schuchmanns.
Heading to Africa!
I had the opportunity to meet many people from a variety of African
countries when I lived in Virginia Beach. Most of them were there as
students at Regent University. In getting to know my friends, I was
impressed with their passion for Jesus and depth of faith. Their
stories about their home, some amazingly wonderful and some incredibly sad,
fueled a desire in me to visit their continent. My love for Africa and
her people has continued to grow over the years and I am finally realizing a
dream that has been on the back burner for decades. I AM GOING TO
AFRICA!!!
Jannekah, the Charis midwifery student in Kenya, is
due to give birth to her third baby in March, and she has invited me to come
attend her birth as midwife. Since we don’t know exactly the day her
baby will make his or her appearance, I will be in Kenya for the entire
month of March. So many details about my time there are dependent upon
when baby arrives, but my hope is to have the opportunity to get together
with the other midwives/TBA’s for a time of sharing our “tricks of the
trade”. I hope to be able to share with them some of my midwifery
skills, and, in turn, learn from them as well.
Please pray for safe travel, for my midwifery supplies to make it all the
way to Kenya on the airplane without being lost or stolen, and for my
complete recollection of the little bit of Swahili I am attempting to learn.
And, more importantly than that, for Jannekah’s baby to be born after I
arrive, completely healthy and happy. My desire is for Jannekah’s
birthing day to be full of God’s peace and presence as the newest member of
the Guya family enters the world.
You can expect a full report on my African adventures in April.
Blessings,
Kristin Schuchmann, CPM, LM
