Charis Membership

We at Charis are extremely grateful for our wonderful members. This past year, your dues have made it financially possible for us to creatively correspond with people in areas of the world where internet is spotty at best. Having all forms of communication available for us is essential if we are going to successfully train birth professionals in the far reaches of the earth. As our community of members grows, there will be more funds available for even more world-impacting outreach. Thank you!

Several people have contacted us recently asking about when their membership dues should be paid. Membership is due every December 31 for the coming calendar year. So, if you became a member on or before December 31, 2009, your dues should be mailed by the middle of December, 2010, to be sure it is received in time. If you became a member sometime in 2010, then your membership is not due until December 31, 2011.

You can send your membership form and $30 dues to:

Young girls today often do not receive a Christian perspective on their coming-of-age cycle. Mothers sometimes do not realize how they can place a Christian view on such an event in a girl's life. In this workshop, mothers and daughters learn together about this topic, educating themselves and sparking useful conversation between them about God's design for women.

Our Director's Heart

Merry Christmas, Charis Family!!!

Most years when we celebrate Christmas and the birth of Christ, I remember Mary and what she went through during her pregnancy and birth.  Most people probably don’t think about all that is involved in giving birth in a place that is designed to house animals or what it was like riding a donkey at nine months pregnant, but I do.

This year, however, I have thought more about what Jesus experienced as he grew in Mary’s womb, went through labor and birth, took his first breaths of air, and gazed for the first time into his mother’s eyes.  Even in the first days after conception, when he was smaller than the period at the end of this sentence, he was still fully God.  All the things we experienced as we grew in our mother’s womb, he experienced, too.  Jesus felt the same tight contractions as Mary labored that we felt when our mothers labored with us.  He was birthed out of the warm, watery womb into the cold, unfamiliar world just like we were.

We face nothing in life that Jesus Christ did not also face.  He knows and understands our struggles, temptations, and joys.  He’s been there!  From the moment of conception to the very last breaths, fully God and fully man,  He walked this human road.  He has also promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us.  So, not only does he know what it’s like to live life on earth, He is still, through His Holy Spirit, WITH us.

I am reminded of the verse in Isaiah 43 that says, “When you go through the waters, I will be with you.”  Every time I read that verse, I think about the waters in the womb and how intimately involved He is in the forming and birthing of a baby, and how He is WITH every baby as it passes “through the waters”.  And, this year, for the very first time, it has dawned on me that not only is He WITH a baby at that time, He KNOWS what it is like to “go through the waters” of the womb and be birthed into this world.

Jesus is Emmanuel, God WITH us… and he knows and understands because He has been there.

Blessings to all of you this Christmas season,

~Kristin Schuchmann
