Our Charis
Family
Sammantha Lugmayer

Hello
Readers! I'm Sam, proud mother of Charis Doula and CBE, Elizabeth
Lugmayer.
I am the youngest of seven children, born to Ralph, the firstborn of
Irish immigrants, and Blanche, the daughter of an Indian maiden from
the Iroquois nation. I grew up in Northern Virginia near the
nation's capitol.
My siblings and I were among the first riders of the Metro Rail
system, and regularly visited the museums, parks and memorials
there.
Following high school graduation, I enlisted in the United States
Marine Corps, and spent four years in the Mojave desert as a basic
metalsmith. With my Honorable Discharge in hand, I returned to
Alexandria, Virginia and joined the International Ironworker's
Union, Local 5, as an apprentice. Two and a half years later, I
became the fourth woman in the history of the Local
Journeyman Iron Worker (JIW) to receive my Certification. I not was not only
blessed to receive this certification, but shortly later I married
William Lugmayer, brother of the man who certified me.
Nearly a decade and three children later, Bill and I relocated
to Norfolk. James, 24, Elizabeth, 20, and Jacob 15 have all
been homeschooled.
Currently, my husband, William, and I own "Doves Under the Son", a
one of a kind wood working business. We carve sanctuary doves,
crosses and walking sticks. I am also a pyrographer. I woodburn
scripture plaques. We have pieces across the US, and across the
world. My hope for all of our work is to first and foremost, glorify
God, and secondly, to place His Word on walls and in prayer closets
to uplift and refresh the saints. Thirdly, I would hope that God's
Word would be readily seen by the lost, the hungry and searching,
knowing they can find comfort in Him.
I am still a homeschooling mom of Jacob who is surviving high school
and hopes to become a Marine (Semper Fi!). I am honored to raise up
our next generation. I'm the cheer squad, prayer warrior and drill
instructor of my brood. My greatest pleasure is knowing that they
are pursuing God's Will for their lives, from welcoming new life to
guarding our nation. Yeah! Doulas Rule!

William and Sammantha's woodburn plaques.

Letters To The Editor
From Dave Yarnell in Pismo Beach, CA: This is SUCH a
wonderful newsletter. I enjoy reading it every month and learn so
much from reading the "Charis Around The World" articles. Shouldn't
we all be very happy we live in a country that promotes better
sanitary conditions than some others? WOW. Very interesting READING!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK and sharing! I am a proud grandfather of 18,
and not only was I able to be present during a couple of my own kids
natural births, but witnessed a number of my grandkids births as
well, the last one being a necessary caesarean. Probably not a whole
lot of us xy chromosome people get that privilege? I encourage ALL
males to witness childbirth and maybe there would be a lot more
respect for femmes of the world! GOD IS GOOD!

Charis Cuisine
Groovy Guacamole
4 ripe avocados
Juice of 2 lemons
2 medium cloves of garlic, minced
Salt & pepper to taste
Mash all ingredients with a fork or blend in blender.
Tip for storing guacamole: store in covered bowl with the avocado
pit to keep guacamole from turning brown.
Guacamole is yummy atop Tortilla Chips,
dabbled on rice dishes, as a salad dressing, used as a dip for any
vegetable favorites, carrot sticks, cucumber slices and more.
You can add your favorite garnishes to it, green peppers, onions,
garlic. Spice it up high or low. Or eat it very plain.
Avacados are a fruit
belonging to the genus Persea in the Lauraceae family. They are rich
in vitamin E which is a beauty vitamin because it is valuable for
healthy skin. Avocadoes also supply a considerable amount of
potassium and large quantities of the extremely healthy
monounsaturated fats. These nutrients, especially the oleic acid and
the other nutrients avocados contain, make them one of the most
powerful antioxidant foods. Pureed avocado is good for invalids,
sick children and those people who are recovering from an operation
as it's easily digestible and contains some antibacterial and
antifungal chemicals.
