childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, or anyone who would like to improve her
ability to support laboring women.
At our workshops, learning is interactive, hands-on, fun, and interesting. All
Charis workshops are taught from a Christian perspective, giving God the glory
for His marvelous creation and how He so wonderfully created women to bear
You will spend the day making new friends and becoming more skilled in putting
to use many techniques to bring a woman comfort during each phase of labor,
understanding the science behind why the comfort measures work, creating an
environment conducive to the natural progression of labor, recognizing when a
woman is beginning to panic and helping her regain control, gently encouraging a
woman to effectively push out her baby while taking advantage of the natural
physiology of second stage, assisting a woman in breastfeeding for the very
first time, and so much more.
In addition to the valuable skills acquired at the workshop, you will also take
home with you a beautiful “labor support bag” filled with an assortment of tools

Hello, Charis Family!
I am super excited about the upcoming Charis “Labor Support” Workshop and
spending the weekend with so many of our students and other birth professionals!
We have a great weekend planned for this fantastic group of ladies! It will be
wonderful to gather in our new location for the very first time.
Friday evening, October 2, we will be meeting at 6:00 p.m. for dinner at Café
Evergreen in Nokomis, FL, and then we’ll go for a sunset stroll on the beach
afterward. It is always nice to have social time prior to the workshop so
everyone has a chance to get to know each other better before our long day of
“working” together at the workshop.
Saturday morning, October 3, breakfast of fruit, muffins, juice, tea, and coffee
will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the workshop will begin promptly at 9:00.
Workshop attendees are in for a real culinary treat at lunchtime! Our chef is
preparing delicious, creamy butternut squash soup and yummy yamoli sandwiches
for our midday meal. That amazing butternut squash soup is sure to be a huge
hit, so the chef has agreed to share the recipe in October’s newsletter. In
addition to all the information and hands-on experience everyone will receive
that day, I have prepared wonderful gifts designed to help everyone serve
laboring women with even more excellence. After the workshop, we will all grab
leftovers and head to Blind Pass Beach on Manasota Key for a picnic and another
breathtaking sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
If you missed out on this year’s workshops, you will want to participate in what
we have going on in 2016. Mark your calendar now for the next Charis
“Communication, Teaching, and Coaching” Workshop to be held on March 5, 2016, at
Charis’s new location in North Port, FL, and stay tuned for more details to come
in future newsletters.

correspond with people in areas of the world where internet is spotty at best.
Having all forms of communication available for us is essential if we are going
to successfully train birth professionals in the far reaches of the earth.
As our community of members grows, there will be more funds available for even
more world-impacting outreach. Thank you!
