Course
for Childbirth
Professionals
Want to become a Childbirth Educator, Doula, or Midwife? Charis
offers excellent education for birth professionals from a Christian
perspective.
The Charis Course for Childbirth Professionals is a two-part
course. The first part is “Foundations for Childbirth
Professionals”. In addition to this being the beginning of our
Midwifery Academics Course, those who desire to become Childbirth
Educators and Doulas will be fully equipped at the end of
“Foundations” to take the exam to become Charis Certified Childbirth
Educators and Doulas.
Part Two is “Advanced Midwifery Academics”, which builds upon
“Foundations” to provide aspiring midwives an extremely
comprehensive academic course. The two parts combined are designed
to prepare midwives well for the NARM exam, but you will find that
it far exceeds that standard.

Our
Director's Heart

Hello
Charis Family!
Remember the day you climbed the seemingly hundreds of steps to jump
off the high dive for the very first time? Remember the butterflies
in your stomach as you looked down and realized how far away the
water was? The thoughts raced through your mind: “I don’t want to do
it… I have to do it… Will I survive?.. Should I turn around and
climb back down the steps?” You were perfectly happy with the low
dive. Each small jump was fun and easy. No problem. But now it was
time for the high dive. Was it worth the risk?
Just thinking about the first time I jumped off the high dive has
caused my heart to race. Everyone’s eyes were on me and I couldn’t
turn back. I had to go for it and I was terrified! I did it… and I
survived. While the high dive never did become my favorite thing to
do, it isn’t nearly as awful as I imagined it would be.
Well, here I am on what feels like the high dive once again as
Charis is at a very important, pivotal time. I have been happy and
comfortable with our slow, steady growth.
The day-to-day operations of Charis have not been a problem for me
to handle on my own up until this point, but it is becoming
increasingly more evident that it is time for Charis to grow to a
level that requires much more than I can do single-handedly.
As I look at the steps ahead, the same butterflies I experienced
atop the high dive have re-entered my stomach. With the “jump” comes
risk. Is it worth it? I say, “YES!”
Please pray as Charis enters this season of tremendous growth.
We need wisdom and guidance and HELP in order to accomplish the
tasks ahead.
Charis has outgrown the “womb” of New Life Christian Fellowship of
Virginia Beach. We will be incorporating in FL and becoming our own
501c(3) nonprofit organization by the end of 2008, if all goes as
planned. The next major step after that is to become a
Florida-recognized midwifery school… and then on toward MEAC
accreditation.
Charis also has plans to open a crisis pregnancy
center/birth center/home birth practice in North Port, FL, not only
to serve the birthing community here, but to provide a place for
Charis students to receive short- or long-term hands-on learning
with skilled Charis childbirth educators, doulas, and midwives. As
you can imagine, these are HUGE undertakings that require more time,
energy, and expertise than I currently possess.
Charis is looking for a committed administrative assistant to work
very closely alongside me, a fund-raising coordinator, and one or
more people to research and write grant proposals to support our
expanding ministry. If you or anyone you know would like to learn
more about these positions or other ways you can help, contact me!
I can’t think of a more wonderful organization to work within!
Getting ready to jump,
Kristin
P.S. Many of you are aware of Charis’s computer crash. I’m very
pleased to announce that we now have a new, reliable computer that
will easily get us through the upcoming growth. If you have sent an
e-mail to which I have not replied, chances are that it was lost
with the hard drive crash. Please forgive me for not backing up the
computer often enough… and please resend the e-mail. Thank you so
much for your patience! The computer crash may have slowed us down,
but we’re still moving forward!
