Our Charis Family

"Get the camera," said Donna, my mother, to my 3 year old sister, Lauren. I watched, amazed as my dog, Mollie, began to birth her first puppy. I looked up at Mom and my 5 year old inquisitiveness said, "Mom, what is the word for helping women have babies?"  "A midwife", she said, with a smile. And that was where it started. Ever since then I've wanted to be a midwife, and somehow I've kept with that first dream in spite of rabbit trails and other brief obsessions. I think God planted a seed in my heart right then. It was He who gave me the gifts that I have. Such as a strong stomach, level head, and ability to work under lots of stress and pressure.

We, the McKinney family, live on a farm in Jetersville, VA. Which is 40 miles west of Richmond. I'm the second youngest of 4 children. I have an older brother, Ben, who's 36, a sister, Courtney, 34, and my younger sister, Lauren, 16.

My younger sister and I are both adopted. Yet we look so much alike that we're often asked if we're twins. (Isn't God good?)

I am 18, a graduated senior fresh from Home School High School. I've been homeschooled my whole life, and wouldn't have had it any other way.

As I said, we live on a farm. We have 11 goats (more are expected in September), poultry, guinea hens, 4 dogs and a cat. Gardening is also something I enjoy. This year I helped dad with our family garden, and in spite of me, it grew! I'm actually a bit proud of it, this being my first proper garden.

Music is another of my passions. I've been a piano teacher for 3 years, as well as a participant in various choirs. This year I'm doing Handel's Messiah with the Commonwealth Choral. I've also been asked to start and direct a Homeschool Children's Choir.  So I'm praying about that.

A number of other things I enjoy are reading, writing, pen-pals, dancing, tea parties, sewing, crochet and other fiber arts, the sciences (except Physics, Ugh), drawing, and meeting people!

I cannot wait to begin the Charis course. And I'm so thankful that God opened this door, so I can begin to fulfill my dream. It's such a blessing that this is a Christian organization, it's exactly what I was praying for this past year or so.

In closing I'd like to quote Proverbs 3:5-6, which I'm sure most of you know.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

God bless you all!

What Really Happens
on Your Birthday

Shared by Aunt Christi Jones

My little cousin Cole just had his 5th birthday and woke up that morning and told his mommy his revelation while snuggling in bed with her. This is what he said...

“Mommy, I know what really happens on your birthday. Jesus comes down while you are sleeping and takes your body apart and then puts in extra pieces to help you grow. That’s why I’m bigger now.”

'Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth,
Among  them the blind and the lame, The woman with child and The one who labors with child,  together,
A great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
