Maidens by His Design Workshops
Young girls today often do not receive a Christian perspective on
their coming - of - age cycle. Mothers sometimes do not realize how
they can place a Christian view on such an event in a girl's life.
In this workshop, mothers and daughters learn together about this
topic, educating themselves and sparking useful conversation between
them about God's design for women.
The next workshop is in Vienna, Virginia.
Oct. 27 & Nov. 3 – from 1:00-5:00
pm.
Doran will teach the whole course in two Saturdays.

Workshop Update
Our annual Doula Workshop was Saturday, August 11, and we had a
GREAT time! We thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and
absolutely loved making some new ones. Everyone took home with them
new skills & tools and more confidence in serving laboring women.
The next Charis workshop will be the Teaching Birth Workshop
(formerly Childbirth Educator Workshop) in February of 2008. The
exact date and more details will be coming soon.

Hello Family!!!
I just recently returned home from a 3 week visit to Virginia. A
week was spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains camping and 2 weeks in
Virginia Beach. Believe it or not, it was a full ten degrees hotter
in Virginia Beach than it was in sunny Florida while I was away! It is
good to be back home now so I can cool off a little!
Today I am wading through literally hundreds of e-mails that piled
up while I traveled. Many of you have asked how we are settling in
and how our church is doing, so I thought that I'd go ahead and
answer here.
For those of you who are new or who don't know me outside the
"childbirth arena", my husband Todd, our three youngest children,
and I recently moved from Virginia Beach, where I lived for nearly 4
decades, to North Port, Florida. One of the reasons for the move was
to start a church...well, actually a network of churches, but it all
starts with one. We are part of New Life Ministries International
(NLMI). NLMI is a
network or "family" of churches with a passion for world missions
and church planting.
Our desire is to begin a network of house churches (and any other
size or shape of church, for that matter) in southwest Florida.
Historically, this part of Florida has been predominantly retired
people, but within the last five to ten years there has been a huge
influx of younger families. The bulk of the churches here are doing
a great job of serving an older population, but there are too few
churches in southwest Florida geared toward the younger generation.
Way too many families are not connected with the church.
There are currently about 20 absolutely precious people (adults and
children) who meet in our living room at 4 p.m. on Saturdays. We
study the Bible together, pray together, and worship together. At about 6 p.m., we share a meal and spend time getting to know each
other better. It is so refreshing to have the children involved in
discussing what we are studying in the Bible and in our prayer
times! The kids love the fact that they can bring their swimsuits to
church and swim after dinner! As Todd and I are getting to know our
new church friends, we are discovering many gifts and talents that
God has placed in them. Our passion is to do our part to help them
more fully walk out God's purpose and plan for their
lives.
Although we deeply miss those we left behind in Virginia, our hearts
are quickly becoming knit with our new friends here. Florida is
starting to feel a little bit like home, but I think I'll really
feel at home this winter! Hooray!!! No more cold winters!!! (It is a
good thing God didn't send us to Alaska; I go into hibernation when
it gets below 70 degrees.)
Enjoy the end of the summer and if it gets too cold this winter
where you live, come for a visit. We'd love to see you!
Love and Blessings,
Kristin
