Our Charis Family

Hello Everyone!
I am glad to call Nebraska my home, and am so
grateful to still live with my parents and 8 of my
younger siblings. I am able to participate in
our seasonal family business, all while working on
the Charis midwifery program. I joined the
Charis family in January 2015.
Growing up as the second oldest daughter in a family
of thirteen children, it quickly became routine to
frequent our midwife’s house every fifteen to
eighteen months. While the other children
would play, I would watch each prenatal visit with
wide-eyed interest. It was amazing to watch
her lovingly care for mommies and babies. For
her, midwifery went much further than just serving
physical needs. She used the opportunity to be
a friend -- to pray with, and for each lady, to
disciple each young mother in truth so that they
might grow as a person and be a better wife and
mother. This is what inspired me to serve
mothers and babies as a doula/midwife.
Over the past 10 years, I have had the privilege of
serving mothers as a certified doula and nutritional
coach - though quite intermittently due to our
family’s
music ministry and travel schedule.
Throughout those years there were many times when it
was easy to wonder what God was doing - and what He
was trying to accomplish. It seemed like there
were so many lessons, experiences and skills that
didn’t fit together. Just enough doula work to
make me realize this was where my heart is... but
plenty of work, caring for children, cooking meals,
teaching children and things that didn’t seem to
“fit” with being a doula. But all the while, a godly
Christian lady encouraged me to “trust in the Lord
with all [my] heart, and lean not on [my] own
understanding. In all [my] ways acknowledge
Him and He would direct [my] steps.” (Prov 3:5-6)
She also shared with me a verse from Isaiah, “Those
who trust in the Lord will not be disappointed.”
(49:23)
Now, what an incredible joy to be part of the Charis
family and studying through the midwifery course!
However, in looking back, I can see that God was
using each situation to prepare me for the next.
Each of those seeming random lessons and experiences
have prepared me for the families I am serving now.
This is a wonderful reminder to me in present
situations I don’t understand - I am able to trust
more deeply our loving Father who has always been...
and always will be... faithful! May God give
you grace to walk in the place He has called you,
knowing He is doing great things!
“I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to
hear me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
“Will the Lord reject forever? Will He never show
his favor again?
Has His unfailing love vanished forever?
Then I thought, “I will remember the deeds of the
Lord;
yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all Your works and meditate on all
Your mighty deeds.”
Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as
our God?
You are the God who performs miracles; You display
Your power among the peoples.” Psalm 77

'Behold, I will
bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of
the earth,
Among them the blind and the lame,
The woman with child and The one who labors with child, together,
A
great throng shall return there...And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.'
Jeremiah 31:8, 14
